Insights from the International Living Conference & Costa Rica Retreat: Your Guide to What's Next

Hi!

I'm home! 😊 🌴

As you may know, I've attended two inspiring events in the past few weeks: the International Living Annual Overseas Boot Camp in Las Vegas and a week-long relocation retreat in La Fortuna, Costa Rica.

These gatherings brought together people from all walks of life, each wanting to explore new possibilities for living, earning, and thriving abroad.

Here's what I discovered and what it could mean for you if you consider changing your lifestyle by traveling or moving abroad.

✅ A Growing Movement: You Are Not Alone

The number of attendees speaks volumes about the growing interest in living abroad.

At the International Living Boot Camp, there were over 800 participants.

In our one-day freelancing session, 40 people engaged in learning about earning income remotely, while our shorter conference sessions drew over 100 eager listeners.

The La Fortuna retreat in Costa Rica attracted 38 attendees for an entire week of exploring what life could be like abroad. The retreat included many information sessions led by insurance brokers, car brokers, medical tourism professionals, shipping experts, and more! The group also had the opportunity to go hiking and zip lining and taste local life…

What does this tell us? You are not alone.

More and more Americans are considering the prospect of international living or, at minimum, more international travel, whether for a sense of adventure, better work-life balance, or new opportunities.

This interest has grown into a genuine movement driven by people who believe in a different way of life and earning.

As Collins Dictionary defines, "A movement is a group of people who share the same beliefs, ideas, or aims."

The Financial Reality: Earning Abroad Is a Must for Many

While the dream of traveling or moving abroad is enticing, only some are financially able to stop earning.

Conversations at these events frequently touched on the reality that people don't have all the money they'll ever need to retire the way they want. Key concerns included delaying social security for maximum benefit or ensuring enough income to sustain an active lifestyle.

But here's the good news: there are solutions. Many attendees were eager to explore freelancing to generate income on their terms. Whether earning part-time to supplement savings or creating a full-time income while enjoying the flexibility of remote work, people are finding ways to live the lives they want.

Consider this:

  • Freelancing offers flexibility. You can Earn when and where you want, even while traveling or settling in a new country.

  • Skills can be monetized: Many don't realize the marketable value of their skills until they learn about opportunities like freelancing.

  • A sustainable income stream: It's not just about making ends meet but creating a lifestyle where you stay engaged and purposeful while earning.

✅ Changing Landscapes: Why People Are Considering Relocation

Another theme I saw from my discussions was a growing dissatisfaction with life in the United States. People mentioned political polarization, high costs of living, and a longing for a slower, more meaningful lifestyle. Relocating isn't just about escaping; it's about finding a place that aligns better with one's values and aspirations.

For some, the appeal lies in cultural immersion and adventure. For others, it's about financial practicality, where living in lower-cost countries can stretch savings further.

And for many, it's the idea of experiencing life at a different pace, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and rich cultural experiences.

✅ Key Takeaways: What This Means for You

If you're considering a change—whether it's a new location, a new way of earning, or a completely different lifestyle—here's what you need to know:

  • You're part of a movement. Thousands are exploring these options, so a wealth of knowledge and community support is available.

  • Earning while traveling or living abroad is possible: With the rise of remote work and freelancing, earning abroad is more accessible than ever.

  • Change is an opportunity. Moving abroad or traveling more often can help you realign your life with your values, experiences, and desires.

Final Thoughts

Attending these events reinforced the idea that interest in international travel and living while freelancing is more than a passing trend. It's a movement rooted in the desire for flexibility, fulfillment, and continued earning.

If you feel the pull to explore your own "next chapter," know that there are resources, communities, and strategies to help you thrive during this transition.
